Last year I was shocked and honored to be awarded the trophy for Female Rock Vocalist of the Year and it has done amazing things to help me with opportunities this past year. Because of those honors I received an invitation to audition for The Voice! and was also asked to sing on a ton of demo recordings for songwriters in the past year. In a city full of nothing but professional musicians, singers, songwriters, and performers it's no easy task to make your way up the ladder of success, but with the help of my amazing band and amazing fans & friends, we have done a fantastic job of staying on top.
I wasn't surprised when they asked me to be a presenter this year for the events as I am notorious for grabbing hold of a microphone and talking about nothing in particular for extended periods of time, but it did shock me when they asked if I would emcee the entire event next year after seeing how the crowd responded to the presentations.
And that wasn't the only shock of the night! I knew I had been nominated for the 2nd year for Female Rock Vocalist, but there is some really stiff competition with these rocker chicks and I was completely sick waiting for the announcement. I nearly fell out of my chair when they announced that I was the winner of the award for the 2nd year in a row!!! Honored doesn't even come close to the way I feel about these things. I get emotional. I love what I do and I do it with my entire heart on the line. Operating that way can do 2 things: It can crush you when it goes bad or isn't understood and it can make you the most proud you've ever been in your life when people get it and acknowledge you for it. It's a dangerous way to do business, but it's the only way I know and to everyone who has supported me over all the years of my ups and downs I want to say "Thank you" and may we continue to break down barriers and create music that will change lives.
